Damn right hit some home runs, Peralta. You're a cheater and a fat tub of goo who can't field for shit - you better get some hitting done.

Holy crap - Scherzer has bases loaded with no outs and somehow gets out of it without a score.

Justin Verlander........when you absolutely positively need to fucking shut a team down.

Dayum.

Glad the Sox won't see him for a little bit. Tigers/Sox should be some great baseball.

Yeah, Verlander has gone 28 innings without giving up a run, five of his last eight starts have been shutouts, and he's had double digit Ks in his last four starts. He seems to be regaining his form at a good time.

If Miggy was healthy, I'd say the Tigers would be favorites, as it is, I'd say Boston is. Lackey and Peavy (and to a lesser extend Bucholz) can definitely be gotten to - the series will hinge on whether Scherzer and Verlander shut down Boston's offense. If they don't, I don't think the Tigers can out punch them.

I'm thinking through the game, I can't remember a single suspect call that would have put them ahead or that extended the final inning for the Cardinals.

The only thing that hosed the Dodgers was not having Kemp, because he absolutely makes the catch that Ethier didn't (but should have) made.

The play where the runner himself says "I was out...It was pretty obvious...I think everybody saw that.".

If a runner barrels the catcher and doesn't knock the ball loose, he's going to be called out 100% of the time. Ellis knew that when he chose to lower the shoulder (actually more like lower his face) instead of slide.

Did the throw beat him by a mile? Yes. Did he fail to knock the ball out of the catcher's mitt? Yes. Was he tagged? No. Not to my eyes anyway and I saw a lot of angles last night. Now, admittedly I don't watch baseball, so maybe that's just a call the ump makes whether or not there is an actual tag. Doesn't sound right to me if that's the case, and if that went the other way, if that was a St Louis player called out at the plate I would say the same thing.

It definitely is (in 25+ years of watching, playing, and coaching, I've never seen an ump make a collision call based on whether the tag was made or not). If the runner decides to barrel the catcher, he's essentially changing the question from "did he tag me?" to "did he hang on to the ball?".

The media is making the "next morning" conversation about that to keep interest up, but Ellis's comments (and his reaction at the time) should tell you all you need to know about how it was in the context of the game.

+100000

Probably the easiest call the home plate ump made all night.

Well... he got four in the first inning, so he should be ahead.

(Pretty rare accomplishment)

I had a rained-out but fully paid outdoor festival gig tonight. Got home in time to watch some sports.

Wooo!

I'd have loved to see the first CS no-hitter and the first multi-pitcher no hitter, but I'm loving a 17 K one-hitter win against Boston's #1 against Detroit's #3.

Gods our bullpen sucks.

I'm convinced that MacCarver and Buck were trying to jinx the Tigers - talk about the no hitter for like five minutes straight, "Ortiz has never hit a homer off of Benoit", fucking hate Buck and MacCarver, and MacCarver should die with a syphilitic walrus penis up his urethra.

Every other conversation from the fourth inning on.

Multiple graphics, mentioning "Scherzer's career best is 5 2/3, which he just matched", "Yeah, that's amazing with his stuff that his best is only 5 2/3", "Yeah, it is, you'd think it'd be more"...It's not like you're in the dugout, where you don't mention it at all, but come on, it's baseball, respect the freaking superstitions.

Big Papi!!!!!!!!

KK, you up for a friendly wager? You got the upper hand IMO since game 3 is (s)Lackey vs Verlander.

Juan Uribe's biggest clutch performance was in Game 162 of the 2001 season.

As my fantasy SS, he went 3 for 5 with 2 homers and helped my team win the league by a mere 2 points on the last day of the season.

So, yeah, he plays well under pressure.

I don't bet on anything outside of my control, friendly or otherwise. Yeah, taking home field advantage from the Sox is big, because even if the Sox beat Fister (which I think is a coin flip, since Peavy and Fister are roughly equal), Boston still needs to take 2 more from the Starting Pitcher Cerberus of Verlander/Sanchez/Scherzer. And Miggy is swinging with his lower half again - that should worry Boston more than anything.

I don't see how anyone could pitch while Joe Buck sucks their cock. Verlander did the best he could.

I just added up the stats on Verlander's recent run, they're nuts. Napoli's homer ended a 34 inning scoreless stretch in which Verlander had a WHIP of 0.76 and struck out 53 while walking 7 (7.57:1 ratio). Four straight double digit strikeout, shutout games, plus tonight, an 8 inning, 10 K, 1 run loss. Yowza.

Does he do pilates?
