Ear Protection?

Guessing most of us wear some sort of ear protection when playing at volume... Just wondering what you use.

I have these guys and they're alright. Block out more of highs and mids than I'd like, but are definitely a hundred times better than straight foam earplugs.

I got an ad on FB for these guys:
EarPeace HD

Wonder if they're better than what I have.

I use 2 and they are excellent
these for very high SPL performances or shows
http://v-moda.com/faders-earplugs

and these for "normal" jams and shows but they do not block as much SPL as the faders but have slightly better or "normal" clarity in the highs

I use custom molded -20db plugs. Won't go anywhere without them.

I keep a box of these handy in my trunk and grab them as needed for rehearsals, shows and nights out. Not only do they do the job better than other similar brands I've bought at convenience stores, each pair is individually packaged, which is great.

I don't but should. I had custom ear plugs made back when I played metal like 10 or 15 years ago. But I never wore them because I couldn't hear with them in.....yes I know how stupid that sounds.

The only time that I wear them now is at shows when the bands that we play with are on stage. So many bands have a tone that it sounds like a chainsaw made of ice cutting a chalkboard.

I promise ya - after wearing them a few times in rehearsals, you'll totally get used to them. Well, assuming you don't have too much hearing loss already...

I think that's the problem. My hearing is pretty fucked already. And I am pretty sure it's from when I played in a metal band.

We used to practice in a storage unit with cranked full stacks 4 or 5 days a week. Ridiculous

I can't remember the brand but I use some that look similar to the ones in the op.
I went 20 odd years not being able to wear ear plugs and I've only been using earplugs for a couple of years but I'd never go back to not wearing then now.
For me the problem with ear plugs was, I'd make sure it's all sounding good in the first song then put the plugs in. Instant blanket over everything, so out they'd promptly come.
But the problem with that is the longer you're exposed to loud volume the more your ears start compressing making everything harder to hear so I'd always end up turning up the volume which intern would make someone else turn up or play louder.
I've found if I start off with ear plugs in I can actually hear everything better and the bass is louder so I don't end up turning up the volume. And I feel better going to bed without my ears ringing. I love it

b-bottom - just wanted to chime in a final time and say that I think your hearing - all of our hearing - is a very big deal. I think it would be worth your effort to commit to a few rehearsals of wearing plugs 100% and see what you notice after those few. I can tell you that for me, the earplugs are a godsend. I feel SO much better after rocking out or being in loud musical environments after having worn them. No ear fatigue. No ringing or buzzing. Instant chill after sets or nights out. Just my 2 cents.

next time I'm out and about I'll pick some up. Since I'm doing vocals with MD it's tough to do them properly with ear plugs in but I'll give it another shot.

I (used to) use the ETY plugs as well.

They work wonders when you're in the audience as well, especially in shittier venues.

I wore them around for years, and used them religiously for practice and shows, but lately I've stopped doing it.

Maybe my hearing has gotten worse, so I don't feel the need to wear them. Maybe we've all grown old(er) and don't enjoy levels of noise that require protection all the time...

I was thinking (still am) of getting some custom molded ones, but haven't got that far yet.

I have these as well. I like them, they seem fairly flat in the attenuation. They look a little goofy but I need to protect what I have.

For the last several years, I've noticed a decline in my ability to hear directional speech from my conversation partners when we are in noisy environments.

I have custom molded Westone earplugs with the removable dB filters. Best money I've spent for gear ever.
