Well apparently my other posts were also brilliant, so I might as well stick with the theme.

You asked ridiculous questions that you should know the serious answer to if you're reading the thread. I'm not taking the bait and pursuing further conversation. Sorry, sweetie.

Oh I think everybody knows the answer...your points are indefensible because you are just bitter when you get busted.

The timing of this is funny to me, after work today I have to go to court to pay $120 for the speeding ticket I got on New Years eve.

Are there other things I would rather spend that money on? You bet. Am I ticked? Yea. Am I pissed at the cops for doing their job? Nope.

Yes, you're right. I formed my position on police forces over a decade ago (even when I hadn't ever received any tickets) assuming that sometime in the future I'd get one and be SUPER SERIAL MAD about it. I'm as offended by your assumptions about my rationality and intelligence as I with about your piss poor logic.

I have several friends who are cops, good cops and they can say that there are bad apples in the bunch. But I think its just as fair to say that MOST cops are good people and good public servants.

I'm sorry, but the video is just sensationalism just like anything else - designed to get a reaction from people. You could do the same kind of expose finding the worst of clergy, social workers, CEOs, food workers, missionaries, mechanics, plumbers, ice skaters, etc. Look for something good and you'll find it in people. Just as easily, you can find the bad, too.

For example, I could post a video of me playing bass.......after drinking.

Are you saying it would be exceptionally bad, or you might be a somewhat coherent drunken bassist? I know I get crappier when I'm drunk, but if you were to do the opposite, maybe you'd accidentally somehow play better? Are you a drunken-master of bass playing?!

Assholes in IT or real estate aren't beating people.

That's a ridiculous justification.

Cops should be held to a higher standard.
horseshit.

Cops should be held to a higher standard, I agree. However, there are very violent people in every profession.

I agree 100% with Vanlatte. I know a few cops and even helped in some training a few times. They have a lot to deal with from people that won't be straightforward and merciful to them in a confrontation. I'm sure they go overboard occasionally but to cite a video that was made to troll is crazy. Think about how many police get in confrontations every day and how many go too far. It's not much. To make sweeping generalizations about it is just wrong.

You can bitch about how they pull people over for expired registrations or speeding but the first time a child gets run over by someone speeding, everyone will be all over the police about why they didn't do anything about it.

They have a difficult and dangerous job and I thank them for every minute of it and I'm sorry they have to put up with the criticism from the cheap seats.

You should have the pleasure of dealing with an asshat cop some time. You'll change your mind. If people don't criticize them, they will simply become even more bold and entitled to the power that comes with the badge and the gun.

Not likely. They are there as a crime investigation unit. Protect and serve is just a fancy, meaningless slogan at this point.

The things they should be doing. Not playing bookkeeper for the city's paperwork oversights or serving to fill the counsels coffers.

This makes perfect sense to me.

One time at the DMV I got treated like shit.

Therefore, everybody who works at the DMV is an asshat.

So from your dealing with one local department, you can paint all of them with a broad brush? I live in the middle of several suburbs next to our capital city. The capital cities PD is a joke. I am almost afraid to enter the city limits. But the smaller communities around me have awesome PD's and the Sheriff's office is awesome in my county but the neighboring county (the capital city) is a joke also. I try not to stereotype a whole profession, religion, race, creed, nationality, or geographic region by a narrow view of a few, but if that works for you and Ball Gag, go for it!

He's not painting cops with any specific brush, he's making a comment on what their function is in reality. If you're going to accuse him of speaking in generalities you could at least get it right.

When I was young I had some trouble with police because I acted like a douchebag asshole. When I stopped acting like a douchebag asshole, I stopped having trouble with police. So what do all people that have trouble with police have in common? How's that for "general"?

I had a paragraph typed out but I deleted it. I think I'll leave it at "Oh lord.... "

Maybe if I had tits you'd be more inclined to agree, or even just accept that I have a different point of view for reasons that are not completely invalid.

So....

Many people who "gravitate toward that job wouldn't measure up mentally or emotionally" would still qualify according to BOALG's comment about cops "being held to a higher standard." Now you should think about that in the context that many of these people have a VERY slightly above average IQ. That's not a generalization.

I'd also like you to expand on why people who have guns, badges and the power over the public that comes with those 2 pieces of gear should be emotionally and mentally deficient.

I'm sure crickets will be chirping, because other than doing a quick drive-thru read, you didn't think very clearly when making your initial response to my post. You should only wish you could work at your local DMV.

typical response of someone who gives not a shit about the welfare of others...

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I was Protestant.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
