Cops should be held to a higher standard.
Same could be said about any person of authority. So apparently you have to be a real sociopath to be a moderator.

typical response of someone who gives not a shit about the welfare of others...

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I was Protestant.

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.
Then they came for the Irish and no one cared.

I had a paragraph typed out but I deleted it. I think I'll leave it at "Oh lord.... "

Maybe if I had tits you'd be more inclined to agree, or even just accept that I have a different point of view for reasons that are not completely invalid.

Doesn't look like you are allowed to have a difference of opinion for valid or invalid reasons. Everyone must think alike or they will come for you...

So....

Many people who "gravitate toward that job wouldn't measure up mentally or emotionally" would still qualify according to BOALG's comment about cops "being held to a higher standard." Now you should think about that in the context that many of these people have a VERY slightly above average IQ. That's not a generalization.
I was not aware of this "fact"

I'd also like you to expand on why people who have guns, badges and the power over the public that comes with those 2 pieces of gear should be emotionally and mentally deficient.
You want me to expand on an implied fact that is your opinion? Sorry, not going to happen no matter how many different ways you spin your bitter bias.

I'm sure crickets will be chirping, because other than doing a quick drive-thru read, you didn't think very clearly when making your initial response to my post. You should only wish you could work at your local DMV.
It does not take a lot of "clear thinking" to spot your personal issues with authority figures.

Actually it explains a lot of the abrasive posts you make.

...I live in the middle of several suburbs next to our capital city. The capital cities PD is a joke. I am almost afraid to enter the city limits. But the smaller communities around me have awesome PD's and the Sheriff's office is awesome in my county but the neighboring county (the capital city) is a joke also. I try not to stereotype a whole profession, religion, race, creed, nationality, or geographic region by a narrow view of a few, but if that works for you and Ball Gag, go for it!

If I were you, instead of deliberately misrepresenting my posts, I would think long and hard about how 2 politically polar opposite people, as BOALG and I are, feel essentially the same way about the supposed "authorities."

The world is full of people. A lot of people are assholes. Police departments are staffed with people. Therefore, there are probably a lot of asshole cops. Power gets to some people in a bad way.

The cops I know are good people, and not assholes, but this is probably because I don't associate with assholes too much.

I don't believe the hype of those videos, but I also don't discount them either. These videos are nothing new, its not like some magical veil has been lifted off and I all of a sudden see the light that there are bad cops out there.

I care plenty for the welfare of others. And I don't condone police brutality. But I am sympathetic to the conditions and threats they face on a daily basis. The only people they are "coming for" are criminals. To categorize all police as sociopaths because someone dug up a video of out of context "greatest hits" is completely unreasonable.

Even most "good cops" turn a blind eye to corruption and will side with a fellow officer to the point of perjury.
Absolutely true. There are quite a few former cops and wannabe cops (there are TONS of applicants for every open police officer job) working as prison screws. One of my coworkers and academy mates interviewed for a cop job at a local department. They questioned her about what she would do if she pulled over a drunk driver who turned out to be a police officer. She gave the typical answers "call my supervisor," "call my mentor," etc, but they kept pressing for an answer saying things like "what if your supervisor, etc, isn't available?" She finally said, "well, I guess I would arrest him."

Her interviewers immediately said "You WHAT?!?" That really told her all she needed to know about that police department and also that she had no chance at getting that job.

Granted, data is not the plural of anecdote, but I doubt you'll find a lot of quantitative information on how cops operate on a less-than-honorable level in their internal affairs. Having read a lot of case law and other police documents, there's no doubt in my mind that cops will lie on the stand and fabricate evidence in order to close a case. Having seen clear evidence of that, it gives a whole new meaning to that "Don't Talk to the Police" lecture on YouTube.

I don't see why cops should be held to a 'higher standard'. We surely don't pay them like they should.

Cops have to deal with douche-bag assholes on a regular basis. Far more than any of us. And. For some police officers, their lives can be put at risk while at work. A stress that can be difficult to deal with.

I'm not excusing any police that aren't operating within reasonable and legal standards. I feel that if you're going to be a cop you should know all this up front and be ready to deal with it.

And. I think the ones that do hold themselves to a higher standard and are good at their jobs.

It's one of my buttons. Firemen and Police. Most other stuff I can laugh off. Those guys don't get paid exceptionally well, and roll the dice with their lives (granted the odds are slim). I'm open to discussions about particular brutality or other issues but the generalizations are unrealistic.
