Open season now on Burmese python's down here in the Everglades, cash rewards even. Who needs bears when you can hunt giant snakes in gator territory!
Fuck that!

Meh, I've spent enough time in swamps that I'm not that bothered by gators. I'd be more afraid in some parts of Atlanta or Chicago than I'd be in the Everglades. Gators and pythons don't have guns or a desire to kill me for what might be in my pocket. The animals in our cities are far more dangerous.

Grizzly is a bigger target though, and I'd think a python would be really wily, much harder to hit if you had to pick one to be pissed at you. Can you shoot a grizzly and take em out or are typical bullets too small? I don't know anything about what type of ammo you need to kill what, because I'm not a murderous douche.

To put down a grizzly you will need a large caliber hunting rifle, or, at close range, multiple deer slugs from a 12 gauge shotgun.

I would think that a python could be dispatched with a shot shell from a 20 gauge or .410 shotgun.

Shot placement is key when it comes to killing bears. If you wound a grizzly without making a fatal shot, it can end badly. However, a single, well placed shot from a sufficiently powerful rifle will drop a grizzly quickly. The kill zone on a Grizzly is probably smaller than a large python since a python has no fur and thinner skin than a grizzly. #5 shot from your grampa's scattergun would just piss a bear off, that same load would turn a python to burger.

With pythons, they expect you to trap them or catch them, then put them down humanely. Fuck that noise, I'd be raining #4 Buckshot into those swamps. Although, I suspect that most pythons in the Everglades are shorter than 10 feet, so magnum turkey loads would probably be adequate.

Gators have a tiny kill zone when they are in the water. It's best to just use dynamite.

The Grizzly I killed was taken with a 60 lb. recurve bow and a 4 blade Zwickey Black Diamond Eskimo Broadhead. Of course I was backed up by two people with 12 Gauges just in case. Some critter, those bears.

We hunted 'gators at night from an airboat with recurves a few years back. It was a hoot.

Those snakes down there in Florida need dealt with for sure.

I sent 2 more Coyotes to Hades this morning. My Mini-14 now has 37 notches in the stock since I started keeping score. Groundhog notches are at 62. C'mon springtime!

I leave for Iowa turkey hunting on Friday. It feels so strange getting ready to hunt in the spring but I'm excited. To be able to do this more often than just the fall is good for my sanity.

Spring Turkey is always fun. We have not done it for some time, but maybe the time has come to reconsider.

Have safe trip and successful trip.
