I've spent probably a month of my life camping in Estes. Always a good time.

I'm spending two nights in Estes Park next week and renting a Jeep for the day.

Perhaps the park is fine, but the city is a tourist trap shit hole full of whiny assed kids (my own included) and "native made crafts" complete with Made In China stickers. Too many people, too much bullshit.

The only reason I'm staying there is that it's where the Jeep place is. Seemed like a fun area for a couple of days, then we're going up to the University of Wyoming Museum.

Man. Wish I could be there with you. So much cool shit I could show you.

If you dont have anything planned and you have the Jeep for a legit full day, let me know.

Lots of great jeep trails within an hour or 2.

Only slightly related, how terrible would the drive between Longmont and Fort Collins be, if I were going north in the morning and south in the evening?

It's a bit of a drive from where you are, but I enjoyed the hell out of visiting this place a few years ago:

I breezed right on past that piece of info.

One of my favorite day trips is Rollins Pass, about an hour south of Estes Park, near Rollinsville. Rollins Pass doesn't technically require a 4x4, but it's a twisty-turny road that goes to the top of the continental divide.

Another option from Rollins Pass road, if you want to do some off-roading, is Mammoth Gulch. It's fun without worrying about trashing a rental, and there are some side roads to explore. Mammoth Gulch Reservior used to be up here, it's where all the hippies would hide out back in the 70's.

Either of those trips would be a solid 8 hours if you went directly there in the morning, had fun, and were back on the Peak to Peak with 90 minutes to spare.

Bingo. Colorado residents go to Estes Park for three reasons:

-They're airlifted there because they fell off a rock
-An in-law has requested they go there
-They recently suffered a closed head injury and have no recollection of having been there in the past.

I was being sarcastic. There are literally no redeeming features of Estes Park. None. Well, I guess the McDonald's bathroom is pretty clean. That's about it.

I used to have to drive up there at 2am to inspect the fire system at that McDonald's. Every single time, the manager was 2 hours late, and every single time, the Estes Park P.D. rousted me in the parking lot, thinking I was casing the joint.

I told you knocking over a McDonalds was a bad idea.

I've been pulled over twice in Estes Park. The first for "speeding", because I was going 5 MPH over the posted limit. The second was for "suspicion of drunk driving", because I made a lane change without my turn signal at 9AM on a Tuesday.

Neither of these incidents resulted in any sort of citation/ticket.

Fuck Estes Park.

See, if you came out Friday night and had beers, I'm pretty sure that would've improved your overall trip. I would've spent countless drunken hours giving you completely unsolicited advice on how shitty Estes Park is.

Estes Park sound idyllic to me.

It's like Florida, but in the mountains.

It's pretty up there, but the town itself is lame. It is a good base camp to do way cooler shit, that's for sure. The Peak to Peak highway runs through a part of the state that is still kind of a throwback, because it's really desirable to people who dont like people.

I'm taking this thread as a challenge to have a stupid good time in Estes Park.

Of course, I'll only be sleeping there, so I might need to score some Ambien.

Ya know, I stayed in Friday night and had some beers and it was an entirely pleasant experience.

And I had nothing to do with Estes park, I wanted to go swimming in Longmont.
