I'm taking this thread as a challenge to have a stupid good time in Estes Park.

Of course, I'll only be sleeping there, so I might need to score some Ambien.
You will be so bored in Estes Park, Ambien will not be required.

You'll have fun though. It's a good base camp. South St. Vrain Canyon between E.P. and Lyons is a nice drive, and you can bail out and go into Rocky Mountain National Park if the situation gets dire, go check out Trail Ridge Road and shit.

That's the plan.

I'm flying into Denver late Thursday night and crashing at an airport hotel. Friday morning, I'll pick up the rental car and drive to Lyons. I'm planning on driving to Black Hawk and taking the Peak to Peak up to Lyons.

The wedding is on Saturday. Sunday, we will head up to Estes Park and do some exploring in the rental car. Monday morning, I pick up the Jeep.

Tuesday morning, we're driving up to Laramie to the University of Wyoming Museum, then spending the night in Cheyenne.

Wednesday, I fly home.

Bingo. Colorado residents go to Estes Park for three reasons:

-They're airlifted there because they fell off a rock
-An in-law has requested they go there
-They recently suffered a closed head injury and have no recollection of having been there in the past.
- to fish the Thompson

Arriving in Estes Park in that instance would indicate that you:

-Drove too far
-Dont know how to shit in the woods
-Realized far too late that you didn't bring beer
-Many of the above.

It's pretty up there, but the town itself is lame. It is a good base camp to do way cooler shit, that's for sure. The Peak to Peak highway runs through a part of the state that is still kind of a throwback, because it's really desirable to people who dont like people.
Peak to Peak highway is awesome for motorcycling.

I got two nights in Estes Park starting the 22nd.

The Google pics seemed nice.

We wants to pokes our noses in the NP or maybe raft some whitewater.

You're a tourist. Like Kindness. Estes park is great for tourists.

Locals have way better spots is all.

It's like going to the air force academy. once you've done it once you're good.

In Estes Park right now. Not sure what the fuss or lack of fuss is about. Then again, I wasn't expecting much.

I took the rental Sorento offroading between Winter Park and Granby, then drove through the Rocky mountain national park.

Good times.

Awesome. It's nice up there, sucks about the trees, though. Did you drive over Berthoud Pass?

We went into the national Forest fire roads west of winter park with the intention of cutting back over the mountain to Corona pass, but there were some road signs that didn't make it seem like my plan was possible, so we just took the long way to Granby, then took 34 to Estes Park.

Grand lake and Granby are really nice areas. I like winter Park too. Have a time share in Frazier.

Took the kids horseback riding through the national Forest, checked into our motel early and let the little shits swim for a bit. We aren't going anywhere near whatever that main street tourist shit pit is. Picking up the Jeep tomorrow morning for more mountain shenanigans.

These are examples of how to do Estes Park correctly.

We had an absolute blast in the Jeep today, especially on the trail that actually required 4 Low and an understanding of how things work(we had that one to ourselves).

We're having dinner at a steak house tonight and tomorrow we are completing the "Doing Estes Park Right" trifecta by leaving.

The best 4x4 trails are the ones that make people in trucks they have to drive to work on Monday say "nope."

No way would I take the land cruiser on that trail. It could do it, but I'm not good enough to not break it trying.

The upside is that my wife had a great time, so she's onboard with me tricking out the LC and making it a street worthy trail rig.

There's a 4x4 loop that starts in Empire called Red Elephant Hill that's pretty fun if you're looking for another ride before getting out of town.

And if you really want to get jiggy, you can do the Bill Moore Lake run out of Empire. You get to cross a 3 foot deep creek.

We did, we hit their ihop for 59 cent stacks. Nice little town.

The UWyo campus in Laramie is really nice, but not shit else happening there.

Cheyenne has proven to be a pile of fun. It's fun to stop being a pretentious cunt and enjoy good tourist shit every now and again.
