I have a good submission for this thread!

One of my bands, Hypnosis, just recently had to make a drummer switch. Previous drummer might be bi-polar (Long story.....but I digress)

Anyway, I know this young drummer who plays in one of the other bands I work with, and occasionally subs with another, and at Church. I think the kid is fantastic, so I invite him to audition for Hypnosis.

Ot goes great! He tears through 1 1/2 of our sets in one rehearsal. Does a second, and same result! third rehearsal, he shows up like a total Diva. He's tired, he has an attitude, and he hasn't listened to any of the material. So,these guys panicked, and got another drummer. He's not as good as the Kid, but he's more familiar with what we do (Steely Dan and adjacent stuff, in case you've forgotten), and they dumped telling the Kid he is fired upon me!

It gets worse.......

Kid is very gracious, says there is no hard feelings, and we move on!
We get offered this gig for an Arts in the Parks thing, and the new guy is unavailable!

So they ask ME to get the Kid!

So I send him a message, but before he can respond, the New Guy's son, who happens to be a drummer, headed for Eastman School of Music for his Masters, is gonna do it, so I send the Kid a message saying never mind- Thanks for being willing.

Meanwhile, the New Guys son doesn't answer any calls, and won't commit to rehearsals, so band leader asks me to contact the Kid agai!!

Imjust refused to do it! I wasn't gonna ask him a second time to play with the people who fired him. Fortunately, I get to the rehearsal, and New Guy and Son are both there.

I did a gig with the Kid Sunday, and he ran into the drummer he replaced at GC! I didn't even ask what they talked about........

I was just told by one of the bands I'm in my voice would be perfect for some Hootie!

I'm not sure if that was a compliment, or if I should kick that sucka in the Jimmy!

Talking with a cover band in St Charles. Punky, rocky, party band. I'd play lead guitar and a little bass swap.

Stop being ridiculous, you're moving to Lombard and we're starting a Jamiroquai tribute.

Oy, its been a strange year for bands.

Acoustica: so this is a little odd but it works, or it did. It is now a 5 piece "acoustic" band. 2 guits, drums, a singer and I just came on for bass this spring. We get about 3 gigs in and the singer is no longer in the band. I do not know what happened. Unbeknownst to me there is someone the 2 guits have in mind, apparently have auditioned him yet, I havent heard anything in about 2 weeks.
Update:
Found out these guys booked a show with the new singer. It will be just the 2 guitars and and singer. Not sure if I am a part of this band or not.

On Monday, I am "auditioning" for a band doing rock/blues covers. Hendrix/Thorogood/Allman Bros./SRV/Led Zeppelin type of stuff put together by a guitarist.
I found the conversation on the phone to be amusing.
Guit: "FuckFuck Fuck Fuckin' Fuck Fuck"
Me: "So you are an amazing guitarist and are better than anybody around. Fascinating!"
Guit: "FuckFuck Fuck Fuckin' Fuck Fuck fuckity fucker fuck fuck."
Me: "And you have all the best contacts at all the best venues and they are begging you to put a band together. How exciting!"
Guit: "Fuck Fuck Fuck Fucker' Fuck Fuck"
Me: "Really? Your schwantz is how big again?"

Yeah, you get the idea. Anyway I go Monday and check it out. I could use a few new musicians to work with.

Gig with band "B" tonight in a nearby small-town square. This is a rock band, we are doing the Smiths, an Uncle Tupelo song, a Noel Gallagher song - all sorts of shit out of my narrow little world. We are under-rehearsed, and there is one song i will have to read a chart for. I hate doing that live.

So I've tried using Bandmix at moogs' suggestion. It's Chicago Craigslist, except everyone thinks they're a "pro".

I've never had any luck with bandmix.

I would find some facebook musician groups or go to some local shows and try to network.

Update: Dude was really pretty good. He will be one of the best guitarists I have ever played with. Drummer was excellent too. Looking forward to this project.

I've found a whole lot of tools on bandmix. Equal or greater than CL.

So here's another band thing I've got cooking with a couple friends of mine. We've been talking about making this record for about 12 years, and we're all finally in a place to make it happen. Apologies if the video doesn't work, I can't make it paste properly from my phone.

Last night as I was setting up my NS NXT before the gig, I screwed the bass to the stand and the thumbscrew never tightened. As I unscrewed it to examine the problem, the large threaded brass collar inside the bass came out along with the thumbscrew, rendering the bass useless. Luckily I always bring a spare bass with me, but since I only have one ERB, I had to play my fretless J which has a very different tonal quality. The fucking mando player bitched about the tone all night. Turn down the highs, you're in my tonal range.

I must now reinstall the large threaded brass collar using slow setting 2 part epoxy from Stew Mac, according to the nice man at NS. This will leave my bass useless for several days, and that annoys the fuck out of me.

MD is playing the half time at a roller derby game this coming Saturday. I'm super excited about it because I really love playing non typical sorts of venues and events. We'll be playing a new song that we just wrote so I am pretty stoked about that.

August is getting pretty booked up and I have a few other potential big things for down the road in the works. There are a ton of moving parts right now so I don't want to jinx anything by mentioning them.
