So...it's been a bit of a journey.

Surgery happened, and it went OK. We are really lucky that the surgeons (oncology and reconstructive) were two absolutely BADASS women who were at the top of their games. Surgery took about twice as long as we thought. She stayed overnight in the hospital, and went home the next day.

The pathology wasn't exactly what we'd hoped for, so that changed the game a bit. We thought there was one incursion that was very small. It turned out that there were two incursions, both about 3x in size what was originally imagined. Still small, but enough so that treatment changed.

In addition to the radiation, she'll have to have about a 9-month course of chemotherapy. We were obviously hoping to avoid that, but not so. We meet with the oncologist Thursday to get the layout of how that's going to go.

She'll need to have a port put in to support the chemo, so that's another trip to the general surgeon. She's already had the original drains removed, but had to have another put in. I think she's pretty much tired of going to the doctor at this point. Unfortunately, we're just getting started with that.

Not to make this sound like a tale of woe, because it could most definitely be a lot worse, but it would be great if we could get this turned and going in the right direction. Some consistent good news would be welcome. It's been a bit of "two steps forward, one step back" so far. On the really positive side, she hasn't had a lot of pain and at this point can easily manage it with Aleve or Tylenol.

I'm probably playing too many shows right now and should be spending more time at home, but she's been able to make some of the shows which helps her feel a little more normal. I am grateful that she's listening to her body enough to NOT go when she's tired.

With the chemo, this is probably going to get worse before it gets better, but all indications are that it WILL get better. There's no reason to expect anything other than a clean bill of health at the end of the process.

Thanks for asking.
